Judge Jason Jaramillo serves as a Judge in the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court. Jason has dedicated his entire legal career to public service, serving New Mexico residents in a variety of capacities. He was appointed to the Metropolitan Court by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham after being recommended by a bi-partisan Judicial Nominating Commission, and he must now run in the 2020 election to keep his seat on the bench.
Prior to his appointment as Metro Court Judge, Jason was a Senior Assistant County Attorney for the Bernalillo County Attorney’s Office, where he provided legal advice and guidance to department directors and elected officials on diverse areas of the law. His expertise at the County Attorney’s Office included employment law, labor law, Inspection of Public Records Act, HIPAA, and criminal procedure. In this role, he prosecuted county code misdemeanors in Metro Court, and he sought civil injunctions in District Court to abate public nuisances. Jason was also previously an attorney for the U.S. Social Security Administration and was LSAT faculty for Kaplan Inc., delivering classroom instruction to support students preparing to take the Law School Admissions Test.
Jason began his legal career at the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, and he served as adjunct faculty of the clinical law programs at the UNM School of Law. Jason also served on two New Mexico Supreme Court rules committees: the Ad Hoc Pretrial Release Committee and the Metropolitan Court Rules Committee. While a member of the NM Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, Jason volunteered in local schools for “Constitution Day” and “Junior Judges” programs, to promote civic engagement in kids.
Jason was born in Albuquerque. He received his BA from Colorado State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law. While completing his education, Jason worked for over ten years for a major grocery retailer. He also he served for six years in the Army National Guard as a field artillery soldier. Jason has volunteered as President and Chief Umpire for Mile High Little League. His wife is a special education teacher for the public school system. They live in Albuquerque, where they are raising their children.
